  • Fresno - Bakersfield

Due to the large scope of the project – the largest public infrastructure project in the nation – the environmental review is being conducted in two parts: at the statewide level followed by a more specific project-level review of each of the nine sections of the system. Each project section is moving through this process at a different pace.

The Fresno to Bakersfield section of the 800-mile system is 114 miles long. The section travels south through the center of the southern portion of the San Joaquin Valley. Stations will be in the cities of Fresno, where it will connect with the Merced to Fresno section, and Bakersfield, where it will connect with the Bakersfield to Palmdale section.

The high-speed train project is expected to create 16,500 construction-related jobs in this region over the life of construction. Once operating, projections estimate 4,500 boardings daily in Fresno and 5,100 in Bakersfield, with travel time between Fresno and Bakersfield estimated at 37 minutes. CO2 emission savings are estimated at 84.75 lbs. per trip.

  • What's New?

The California High-Speed Rail Authority has issued a Revised Draft Environmental Impact Report/Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Fresno-to-Bakersfield section in summer 2012. The revised document has been developed to further evaluate engineering and environmental conditions and to address public and community comments about the proposed project alternatives.  Public comments will be accepted from July 20, 2012 to September 20, 2012 via email, regular mail, through this website, via comment cards at informational workshops or public hearings, or orally at the public hearings. Read more about the Revised documents and public comment period here: http://cahighspeedrail.ca.gov/revised-draft-eir-f-b.aspx.

Comments received during the public comment period will be used to identify issues that may require evaluation or additional consideration. Each comment received regarding the environmental document will be reviewed and substantive comments will be addressed in the Final EIR/EIS document, anticipated for public release in early 2013. Comments on the Draft EIR/EIS circulated in 2011 will also be addressed in the Final EIR/EIS.
