  • Maps of the preliminary alternative alignments for the San Jose to Merced Section are available below for review. The detailed maps will provide you with a better understanding of each of these alignments. Please note that these are preliminary alignments and subject to change. No alignment will be considered final until the Final EIR/EIS is approved by the Authority and a Record of Decision is made by the Federal Railroad Administration.

    How to view a detailed alignment alternative map
    Step 1: Select a subsection, for example Monterey Highway Subsection, from the list below
    Step 2: Select an alternative alignment, for example East of Caltrain / UPRR
    Step 3: Click on the link to the alternative alignment you are interested in to view a key map with more detail.

    Until late 2010, hard copies of the alternative alignment map booklets could be found in libraries throughout the San Jose to Merced section. Please see "Libraries for Alternative Alignment Maps" below for details. Note that these maps may no longer be in circulation.

    In May 2011, the San Jose to Merced Project Team presented the Supplemental Alternatives Analysis Report to the California High-Speed Rail Authority Board.
